The Covenants

The covenants God made, one at a time. See where each one was made and what God bound Himself to. Adam is marked debated, because readers disagree whether the word belongs there.

A in is not a modern contract between equals. God binds Himself. Sometimes He also binds the people. The word is berith. The sign, the oath, and the blood are how you know which bond you are in.

Readers divide, honestly, about how the bonds sit together. Some read one story with several administrations. Some read sharp cuts, especially between Abraham, Sinai, and the new covenant. Both readings are given here as they are. Neither should be allowed to erase one bond in favor of another.

What the word is doing

A covenant is a bond God makes and keeps. It is not a deal between equals. Before you claim a promise, know which covenant it belongs to.

The covenants one by one

The cards below are one per bond: where it is cut, then what God bound Himself to. Adam is tagged, because the text of Genesis 2 does not use the word and readers split on Hosea 6:7.

Lines that are still ahead, including the throne and the land as some readers expect them, stay on Prophecies of the Second Coming. This list is the shape of each covenant, not that whole argument.

Unroll a heading to see the covenants. Roll up all to scan the list. Each entry is one covenant. Debated means readers do not agree that the word covenant fits there.
